Hey, Miracles Never Cease!

There is actually something interesting in Slate.

And, no I don't want to hold your hand (and you can boot the sign of peace while you at it since it is optional).

Comments:
I consider myself and old school catholic, but I would never want to go back to Latin. I believe that some practices such as physical gestures in conjunction with the verbal responses is what I would call "too much". However, the holding of hands or linking with the rest of the congregation during the Lord's prayer actually engages the community through an overt act into full mass participation. Likewise, with the sign of peace people share the good news to others in a community atmosphere. I think this is all done in preparation for the "greatest sacrament". The Eucharist then is the fulfillment of sacrifice and sharing with the community. While it is not written into the rite, the church allows the priest to 'customize' the service to welcome all, while not obligating all.
