The SSPX is the OLDER Brother in the Prodigal Son Story; Thank you Tyler Veghte (aka Nasty Muppet)

NOTE: As always I apologize in advance for any typos or grammatical errors. I despise my laptop. It is an inanimate object, but at times I think it's out to get me (joking!) As a faithful, but almost a day late, listener to The Catholic Guy Show on Sirius XM Channel 129 (well on the app), I was listening to the 6/30 replay today which happened to be a "best of" from about six years ago (Lino gooched the live show. If you know, you know). Anyway, part of the goochcast was Tyler's "Atheist Parable Review" which was about the Prodigal Son (No, the "Lost Son" is a bunch of hippy nonsense that almost makes me think the SSPX is right. It isn't!). Anyway (again), as I was listening to the give and take between Lino and Tyler after having read Father Pagliarani's and Pope Leo's last letters to each other, I couldn't help but think that each of these two men are represented in the Prodigal Son story in an odd way. Well it's obvious who the father in the story is. It's still God (or Jesus if your are an uptight Protestant). But here is where I will really annoy people. The prodigal son, in the eyes of the SSPX, is Pope Leo and the Roman Catholic Church. The SSPX views themselves as the older and loyal son. The attitude of the older son in Luke 15 is one of loyalty that doesn't get recognized nor rewarded. "Look, all these years I served you and not once did I disobey your orders; yet you never gave me even a young goat to feast on." (Luke 15: 29-30) And from Fr. Pagliarani's letter, "A gesture of understanding on Your part, far from harming unity, could only manifest before the world and before all Christians Your concern for unity and Your goodness as a father." (Fr. Pagliarani letter, 30 June 2026) If you are familiar with the passage in Luke then you will know, the father had also said, "My son, you are here with me always; everything I have is yours. But now we must celebrate and rejoice, because your brother was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.'" (Luke 15: 31-32) So, God is telling the SSPX to settle down. But if you know Luke's passage, there is now clear ending. What should be obvious, apparently isn't to the SSPX (nor was it to Tyler in a very humorous way). Do I seem far afield now? Well, hold on nasty readers! The SSPX has constantly run afoul of Rome. It still calls the Novus Ordo a "protestantized Mass". It's posted on it's website! (https://sspx.org/en/must-catholics-attend-new-mass-30441) I could go on and on about how the SSPX has been a petulant two year old with a Pharisee streak (Anti-semitic nonsense to the point that they even had to expel one of their own illicitly ordained "bishops" - Richard Williamson. "Bishop" Bernard Fellay called Jews the enemy of the Church). Even after Pope Benedict remitted the excommunications in 2009 of the four bishops "consecrated" by Lefebvre, the four were still not allowed to exercise the functions as episcopal bishops in the Roman Catholic Church under the authority of the Pope. But in an interview in the same year, Fellay stated, "We will not make any compromise on the Council (meaning the Second Vatican Council). I have no intentions of making a compromise. The truth does not tolerate compromise. We do not a compromise, we want clarity regarding the Council." As of March 2016, Fellay had not changed his stance. (In Focus Magazine online edition, 01 March 2016). So, according the SSPX, Rome is the prodigal son, and it (the SSPX) is the loyal older son. Some how, the Pope has morphed into the "father" in this story, but only if he aquieses to the older son's version of what is right and wrong (you have to read Fr. Pagliarani's letter to see how that happened here:https://infovaticana.com/en/2026/06/30/pagliarani-responds-to-leo-xiv-and-asks-him-for-time-for-discernment-before-he-takes-any-action/) I am sure that SSPX supporters and "Rad Trads" will truly hate me for this post. Please rember that I am THAT boy born in 1966, raised Roman Catholic, who wanted to become a priest, and was told that the liberals (in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles' Seminary under the leadership of the very liberal Roger Cardinal Mahony) would chase me out, and who was dedicated to the sanctity and reverence that Msgr. Lawrence O'Brien and Fr. Houle, S.J. (look him up - the Communists in China tortured the man - Bergolio vs. Houle would've been a debate that lasted 10 minutes at most in favor of Houle) prayed the Novus Ordo Mass... I pray for you. I pray that we can overcome this schism. I am NOT a fan of everything going on in the Church. It is run by people, and people aren't perfect. Look at St. Peter. He cussed. He had a temper. He lied. Oh, do you remember he denied knowing Jesus THREE TIMES after swearing he would never do so? I am sinner. Yup. Need to go to Confession again soon. Never let perfection be the enemy of God's good.

A Change of Plans

Hello. I had planned on blogging a bit more after becoming a member of the coaching staff at a given Las Vegas public high school. My hope was to given you an inside look at how we were developing without naming names so as to protect the privacy of individuals especially the students! I can honestly state that integrity and following the rules is not something I was every going to be able to report positively on, and I was politely told to go away. I have the opportunity to work with a different school. I don't know if it will work out because of changes in the plans of my daughters, and they will come first. BUT I will do my best to try and help this program as much as I can. The head coach seems to be a good Christian man. No, I am not saying he is preaching the Bible in a public school; rather, I am saying he is doing things the right way as far as I can see so far on an extremely limited budget. I'd love to help the underdog.

A Whistle Around My Neck and a Camera Above My Head

Well, as of a couple of weeks ago, I am officially a football coach again; and, at the high school level, that means doing a little bit of everything. In addition to trying to get the inside linebackers at Desert Pines High School up to speed on a new defense, I am learning all about the Hudl integrated camera system. This is a far cry from the old VHS system of uploading a tape into a digital format in a computer and marking it up. With three unique angles filming every down, the sophistication level of film study is light years ahead of where it was 10 years ago. Although I have kept up with the coaching trends (the silly RPO being all the rage until someone figures out that a fullback is useful again), the advances in "film" study are amazing. My guess is that AI will get us even more into two camps: stat coaches vs. football coaches. No, I am not a big fan of Linconln Riley and the ilk that let data drive their decisions regardless of what is actually going on in the moment. But I digress. I appreciate the additional angles, footage and data. Now, if I can just get the players to watch it analytically versus watching it like it's a highlight reel it'll actually makes us much much much better.

Biden’s out; I can Ramble too

After reading lots of commentary earlier this week, I became convinced that Covid would give President Biden an out by Sunday. I got one correct for once. Now lets consider if this solely political or solely a health related reason. Let's start with the latter. If it's a health issue, then the President must resign now for the good of the Country. BUT that slams into the former. 1) Both Chambers of Congress must approve Harris' pick for VP. Senator Manchin?; 2) It appears that the Dems cant completely access the Biden war chest of $91M unless Harris is part of the ticket. Apparently that is why the Clintons quickly endorsed her. Contradiction Time! I wish it was a clear choice between Dem party politics and the health of the President. "The Big Guy" narrative as he as known to Hunter is an issue. I am cynical enough to think that Joe hangs around long enough to give a Presidential Pardon to his son before exiting the White House. If Joe is still the same old bitter politician, he will do it during or shortly after the DNC in Chicago. If he's the team player that Dems say he is, he will wait until after the election.

If you read my last post, you should've noticed that it wasn't a fluid post from an argument standpoint. I'll get back to those; but, in this time, our Country has electronically induced ADD. So I post a bit like that. I should only do that on X. But forgive me. I can't believe Mark Harmon attacked Trump for the size of his ear bandage. If there was one thing that I thought the left wouldn't have brought up, the bandage was it. I expected some odd conspiracy theories from both sides. But a bandage conspiracy? The security detail FAILED in a dramatic fashion. Fix it! RNC SLUT WALK Anyone who understands MAGA (love the idea AND I voted for Haley) knows that the real GOP really supports freedom moreso than the DNC. We have absolute idiots that are "Conservatives" who won't recognize the planks in their eyes while pointing out the specks in their neighbor's eyes. I have NO problem with the RNC speakers chosen. God Bless William Pekrul!

Crazy stuff

The aamount of rhetotic on both sides of the aisle about who is Nazi has been disturbing I would suggest that everyone review what a "Nazi" is versus the original "Fascist" concept was under Mussolini I'm not supporting either and both are appalling But the authoritarian nonsense mentality of Germany and Italy (and Japan) made a "good" fit. I continue to argue that the Progressive movement, including Teddy Rosevelt, shares a lot the same ideals SHARES! So the difference is that FDR was denied another term by death before an amendment was added to prevent more than two terms in a row Both Biden and Trump are goofy But who is best to lead the Executive Branch right now? I say Harris (and she should lead the Dem party against Trump IMO)

Pray for the President

President Biden is our President. I’m praying for him because he is in such an incredibly difficult and responsible position. His performance in last week’s debate screamed “Sundowner Syndrome” if you’ve ever had to deal with someone later in the day with Alzheimer’s/Dementia. My interpretation is in NO WAY a definitive diagnosis; however, his wife needs to be his wife. Biden’s age is not the issue. It’s his health. And the REAL ISSUE is/are the issues. What candidate can best “lead” the country (remember the separation of powers folks; the President is not a dictator regardless of the silliness we see in TV ads)? I pray that the winner in November does his/her best for the country. I would hope that all of us can pray for the future of our country (or have good vibes if you aren’t into God). (BTW I have never voted for Trump in a primary, but I voted for him in the last two general elections. So, yes, I’ve got “issues” with the man.)

Mount Holly’s City Council doesn’t Understand Supply and Demand

I am not a radical tree hugger, but I do believe in recycling, especially when its easy. Apparently the city council was overly stressed out on 6/24 because the amount for collection (the city contracts it out) was going to almost double from $5 and change to just over $9! per month. We have been encouraged to take our recycable stuff to a local place. Or for $7.10/month I can get a second garbage can that picks up trash weekly vs recycling every other week I think we will try to recycle the aluminum cans

It’s Been Ages

Hi folks! I finally regained access to my account after three years just now. I wish I had been online to tell you about my experiences as an insurance sales agent (the good and the bad... the bad is mostly on the Medicare supplement side and those annoying commercials), my time driving a big rig, and my brief time as a half ass pit crew member for Jennifer Jo Cobb in the NASCAR Truck Series. I need to update the family tree. One of my grandfather's wives actually had a daughter from a previous marriage when he married Dolores. So, techniclally, there's a step-Aunt (deceased) which makes her a step-sister to the rest of the MH children. Well until I can log in on a computer versus my phone, Bye now!

What an odd election season

Well I am certainly not telling you anything you don't know with that title. Super Tuesday should be interesting. What I am looking forward too is the GOP Senate primary in NC (we've moved). Richard Burr is the incumbent, but he is being challenged from the right (thankfully!). Although he has a difficult road to getting the nomination, I certainly hope that Dr. Greg Brannon gets it. He is the Tea Party candidate, who fell short in 2014. He doesn't come without controversy having had a failed tech company where he ended up losing a civil suit to the tune of almost $500K. However that did not deter Rand Paul from endorsing him in 2014. He also is a graduate of the right USC! Fight on!

I'm Back

Sometime in the next month I will resume blogging in a full column style as the Spirit or as my cranky attitude moves me on my blog site. Like most of you, I have had a crazy last couple of weeks in general. I have had a crazy, and so strange, last day and a half. I had no intention of restarting my column/blog (half-assed or not!) prior to 1:45 today. I listen to the Catholic Channel's Daily Mass from St. Patrick's when I can on the way to work as often as I can as part as my on going Lenten promise. Today's sermon (by Msgr. Weber? missed the intro) was instructive and positive. Thank God for our WW II Vets! You risked your lives to defend our freedoms, and now, many of the generations after just don't give a damn about your sacrifice or the Constitution. --------- The above is from my Facebook page. The Death Bishops

The USSCB are against the death penalty everywhere. The problem is that they are arguing that those of us in the USA don't need the death penalty anymore as it no longer deters murders and it, somehow, is cruel.

Let's deal with the concept that the death penalty is inherently cruel according to the Chruch:

Now many cite John Paul II. Let us look at his statement:

"It is clear that, for these purposes to be achieved, the nature and extent of the punishment must be carefully evaluated and decided upon, and ought not go to the extreme of executing the offender except in cases of absolute necessity: in other words, when it would not be possible otherwise to defend society. Today however, as a result of steady improvements in the organization of the penal system, such cases are very rare, if not practically non-existent...

In any event, the principle set forth in the new Catechism of the Catholic Church remains valid: 'If bloodless means are sufficient to defend human lives against an aggressor and to protect public order and the safety of persons, public authority must limit itself to such means, because they better correspond to the concrete conditions of the common good and are more in conformity to the dignity of the human person.'"

So it would seem that the Church is against capital punishment unless it is really needed as of 1995.

My best guess is that the Pope was not given the truth Based on the actual data, it is needed. Let us continue!

Let us look at the real statistics as analyzed by Professor John Lott that should have been provided the Pope AFTER 1995. (Lott is also a Catholic). Now those of you who would whack me around... I contacted Prof. Lott two days ago and he confirms his numbers. The death penalty saves INNOCENT lives. Here is his article. BTW I'd be happy to loan you my copy of Freedomnomics.

Both Prof. Lott and I are interested in actually saving innocent lives, emotions be damned. The history of protecting the innocent, especially those we will never know, is on the side of Prof. Lott and me, not the goofy bishops who feel and not think.

Together in Taxation

Yes it has been awhile. I am at Facebook most of the time. However, I am one of my "moods" today; a mood that was set off yesterday by the Archdiocese's annual Together in Mission campaign.

Once again, the complete story behind the program is not being told to parishioners in some (all???) parishes. But before I get to what is being left out, let's take a look at what the program aims to do.

There are many struggling parishes and parish schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. So, Cardinal Mahony started a program where each parish would be given a target donation amount that parishioners were to pledge to meet. It is up to each family to decide how much to give. In the sense that we should help the less fortunate, it is a great program in that all the money goes to the parishes and schools that need it, and none of it is redirected anywhere else.

However, what we are not told is that our parish does meet the target amount, the pastor must cut a check in December for the balance due from the parish's savings account.

So, the idea that charity should come from the heart (as well as the wallet) is completely undercut! The now retired Cardinal has created a program that is more akin to a tax-the-parishes program than to a charity drive. As such, until the truth is told, I will continue to find other financially struggling Catholic organizations to receive my donation directly thus bypassing this tainted structure.
